What is cellulite and how is it treated?

Uneven or uneven skin, usually with light streaks forming around it, is something that many women feel shy about. This problem is commonly found on the skin of the thighs, buttocks, breasts, lower abdomen and hips and is known as cellulite. Before you find the best cellulite treatment, let us know how it is formed. The outer skin attaches to the fat layer beneath and cellulite forms when a band of connective tissue stretches the outer skin down into deeper tissue. The inconsistent pulling of the skin makes the surface of the skin uneven.

Types of cellulite formation

Cellulite formation (mild or grade I cellulite) is the most common appearance of cellulite, having about 1 to 4 depressions with a slightly sagging or hanging appearance on the skin.

Medium or grade II cellulite with approximately 5 to 9 medium depth depressions with a medium covered appearance like white cottage cheese.

Severe or grade III cellulite with 10 or more deep depressions and severe sagging of the skin like a mattress.

Causes of cellulite formation

The reason that men do not require cellulite treatment as much as women is their longitudinal and horizontal alignment of connective tissue and fat cells, which differs from the vertical alignment of women. The distribution of fat, connective tissue and muscle makes cellulite more visible in women. The formation of cellulite depends on age, genetics and the percentage of body fat. The thickness of the skin also affects the appearance of cellulite.

As you age, your skin starts to thin and the skin loses elasticity which triggers the formation. Hormonal imbalances, unhealthy diets, lazy lifestyles, genetics, weight gain, pregnancy and increased levels of toxins are some of the reasons for the formation of cellulite.

Treatment of cellulite

You should take fibre-rich whole grains, vegetables and fruits rather than high-calorie breads, soft drinks, fast food and sweets. Follow a strict physical exercise regime with cardio and strength training before opting for any cellulite treatment.

The following home remedies may be helpful.

  • Consumption of large amounts of water
  • Detoxify your body, stop drinking and smoking
  • Dry brush for a few minutes before bathing
  • Using ground coffee and apple cider vinegar

In severe cases, the following treatments are usually offered

  • Cryolipolysis – a non-invasive treatment for freezing fat cells
  • Ultrasound – non-invasive procedure for 2-3 months, fat removal with sound waves
  • Acoustic Therapy – Vibrating tissue that tends to form cellulite
  • Cellfina – Non-surgical treatment, rupture of the ligament beneath the skin
  • Radiofrequency and laser – Tissue massage and infrared therapy with suction and heating
  • Carboxytherapy – Increasing blood flow by inserting carbon dioxide
  • Microdermabrasion – exfoliating the skin with salt crystals and aluminium oxide

Whether you are a teenager or a middle-aged woman, curvy or slim, this problem is present in nearly 80-90% of the female population worldwide. In addition to these methods, subluxation, endoscopy and vacuum-infused precision tissue release therapy are also highly effective.
